The Department of Women and Child Development (WCD), Government of N.C.T of Delhi was created in August 2007. This separate department of Women and Child Development was created in Delhi NCR to monitor and provide well being for women and children especially those of the weaker sections of society.

The Department formulates plans, policies and programmes, guides and co-ordinates the efforts of both governmental and non-governmental organisations in the filed of women and child development.

The department of women and child development WCD operates and assists the voluntary sector significantly in the implementation of the government policies and programmes for women and children. The focus of the Department is the all round development of women and children and empowerment of women. The activities of the department can be broadly classified into the following categories:
